Kaidan dansu or step-chest. Cedar with wiped lacquer. Measures 45 wide x 27 deep x 74.5 inches tall. Published on page 151 of our book Japanese Cabinetry the Art and Craft of Tansu. Meiji era circa 1880-1900, Kansai region.

Kanto style clothing chest on chest. Each chest equal height. Kiri with wiped lacquer and iron fittings. Measures 37.75 w x 16.5d x 40.25 inches tall. Dates to early Meiji circa 1870. Kanto region refers to modern day Tokyo vicinity.

Sendai clothing chest with faceted handles. A very old single section chest from northern Japan exhibiting fine patina and color. Distinctive lockplates. Measures 16 x 38 x 34" tall. Sendai-Ishinokmaki region. Late Edo circa 1850.
